05 or 06 sti (any difference in engine performance)?

Hello, I have a noob question to ask. What's the different between an 05 and 06 performance wise, engine, turbo etc...My friend's going to buy a used one real soon and we just want to know if it's worth it to get an 06, thanks

Sti. Not WRX. Both STi motors are 2.5 L. I think they both make 300 HP/300 ft/lb. Other than that don't know..

So much misinformation on this thread... :character0074:

The facts: 04, 05 and 06 USDM STi's are all 2.5L Turbos (VF39).

The 07 STi changed to a VF43 with different gear ratios. I do not think the differential ratio changed from 06 to 07. :cook:

06 sti's are definately faster than 05's. My 06 wrx beat an 05 sti at the track with only stage one, that could be the driver, but I've heard the 06 is faster. but the 07 has been the best sti yet.

uh, I think what they meant by above question is that 04-05 STi had 35/65 F/R torque split while 06-07 STI had 41/59 F/R torque split...

Not sure how that would help one be fastAr than the other tho...

It wouldn't... I have driven all (on a daily basis). Out of the box the '05-'07s run the same. HAWT!

who cares which is faster. I would say barely 20% of all sti owners can handle all that power anyways. Hp numbers are nothing more than an extension of your *****. and for the record the 05's look better than the 06's PERIOD!
