I've heard otherwise

Not sure how this guy knew...he was one of the sales guys at the Subaru dealer...sounded like he knew his stuff....anyways

He claims that the 06 STI now makes about 330hp.

Maybe we have "gentlemen's agreement" as in Japan. The manufacturers won't publish anything above 270ps?

Of course I've been looking for supporting info myself ever since I heard this.

Well 250WHP would mean that if we'd assume 25% drivetrain loss, which is conservative for AWD, then 330HP would be just about correct!!!

330 - 82 (25% of 330) = 248WHP

RIGHT!?

BTW, i spoke with the salesman again, says that insurance would go up if THEY knew that the power was 330hp. So Subaru still publishes as 300hp.

Also, the techs swear there's a DIFF when driving the 04-05-06 STIs.

I'm sure there is a difference when driving it but that doenst mean the engine makes more power. The salesman is just trying to sell you a car.

They changed the turbo right? I think the 06s turbo is supposed to spool faster, but the peak power is the same. I don't remember where I heard/read this info.

ive driven both 04,05,06 sti models. personally, even though the numbers are the same, the 04,05 model feels faster than the 06 model. maybe aerodynamics or weight plays a factor. anyone know the weight difference between the 05/06?

The motor mounts in the 06 are plastic, thats all i know that's different besides the different f/r power distribution and they have some sensor that has to do with power distribution to the lt/rt wheels.

Some of the 06's have plastice mounts. The later units have different (not plastic) mounts. FYI
