06 STI. What would you spend 5000 on for power. Not including installation. Ive been building domestics and i am very familiar with non F/I cars. so this is my first import, and i dont know much about it. Thats why im asking. Thanks for any info.

well if power is all you want, then 5k is a good amount to start with. after you break in the car, Get yourself a good turbo back exhaust and ecu reflash. those 2 things are key to any power mods. You might also want to look into larger intercoolers and lightened pulleys. Of course there is always bigger turbos and stuff like that but those can get expensive. But when making mods also consider control. suspension and braking should not be overlooked. a few suspension mods and even the best drag racer won't be able to touch you on a curvy mtn road.
Happy motoring

Picking a tuner will come down to personal preference. While everyone will say one is better than the others, it comes down to who you like and who's stuff is most appealing to you

^^^^^So true. ;-) There are certain power packages that some people swear by (like Vishnu) but others think they are too expensive for what you get... (namely me
:-) ) There are all manner of things to decide too; for instance, do you want stealth or do you want super ricer fart cannon wake the dead axelback? Catless, catted, or high flow cats? Do you want more low end torque or peak power? (Aka what are you using your car for?) Do you want to run at "safe/sustainable" levels of power for engine/tranny or do you have plans to replace with ra geara/6 speed? Lots of things to consider before you can find what's best for you and your application specifically.

Congrats on your purchase. Start off with a turboback exhaust and figure out what you want from there. The last thing I would do is to tune for your combo. I'd check into the cobb ap, they have some good off the shelf maps to use while you decide what route you want to take. The good thing about the ap is it's ability to be custom tuned as well as running generic or more specific maps.

F Vishnu, save yourself some dough and do some shopping. Research every part before you buy it. Most parts are personal preference, material, build quality, function, name. There are differences and many parts in the mid range cost are equally as good if not better than the top dollar parts. Don't be affraid and go out on a limb and go against the grain. Check out the other boards, wrxfanatics, nasioc, clubwrx, ect. Each board seems to have favorite parts and vendors.

x2 for access port, but get it protuned. Check out EQ tuning for killer Accessport orad tuning apps.
