white gasoline smell smoke coming from valvecover breather. hmm, very well could be rings. it does it at idle? or just higher rpms? it is strange. i have heard of anything like it. considering being turbocharged, i would say rings, but again it could be head gasket too..... i got an idea, unhook the breath so they be seprete and see if the smoke come out more on one side than the other. if so, i might have to say head gasket (could be wrong though).. just trying to help

THANKS for the reply! yeah it does it at idle but when i rev it, seems like it goes away. as soon its back at idle smoke comes out again. yeah ill try that! for instance though, if it were the head gaskets... how much $$$ am i looking at to fix? now if its the rings... would it be a good idea to bolt up a usdm 2.5 sti bottom end? how much am i looking at for the shortblock. Again thanks for the input!

is there smoke comming out of the exhaust?
white smoke out of the valve cover breather, the only thing i keep comming up with is head gasket. possible water intering oil. check oil for any signs of water, and check ur water level to see if the water level is low. the fuel smell is stomping me though. i can't think of any way the fuel can get into the oil except the rings. if the car is smoking through the exhaust, most likely rings. but there is a chance that i could go through the head gasket. but i'm kinda wondering about that.
is there any other suggestions out there to help this guy?

not too sure about the fuel smell myself, but last time I had the ewhite smoke rising from my engine at idle, it was a blown HG...
Depending on what exactly is damaged, you could be looking at just replacing the HG, or even gettin a new short block if the ringland let go, and the liner is scorred....

DONT USE A CRANKCASE BREATHER ON A WRX.
Use a catch can. And you don't have to use the expensive ones from GReddy or Apexi. Just get a knockoff one from eBay or something.
