What's the best oil and tranny oil?

I currently use 5w30 synthetic mobil1 and still have the factory tranny oil. I'm looking to change my tranny oil and I'm not sure what to get. I heard NEO was pretty good but I'm curiouos to see what else is good.

Thanks
SZ

For the engine, any decent synthetic will be fine - Mobil-1 is pretty popular because it's readily available (I have used it in all of my cars for years with very good results)

For the transmission and rear diff, asking that question is really opening a can of worms - you will have some people claim that all synthetic is bad, and destroys every Subie transmission it touches, others which swear by brand X or Y, and still others who condemn brand X, claim brand Y is even worse, but brand Z is all that AND a bag of chips.

Bottom line - you want a GL-5 rated oil which is designed for use in a manual gear box. (so pretty much any dino, and some synthetics)

I have Motul Gear 300 in both and have had excellent results.

Thanks, you guys are awesome. I think I'm gonna try the redline and see how it works out, hopefully my tranny won't turn to sh**.

I know I told you guys I was gonna go with redline but I've been doing some research on Neo vs Redline and I think I'm gonna go with Neo. Hey, if it's good enough for the Suby WRC team it must be good for me too...LOL. You're thoughts???

Thanks

Mobil 1 10w30 because it's good stuff, available and cheaper than royal purple...wish i had RP though

I have Redline D4 ATF in my 4EAT tranny but Amsoil and Motul are great choices for a 4eat also.

Let's not assume that Prodrive uses off-the-shelf oils in their rally cars. It might be a special formulation concocted by NEO engineers and chemists to suit the rigorous demands of a WRC car. Their gearboxes must live through a much higher torque output from their restrictor-choked 2.0 liter than even the USDM EJ25t engine develops.
