Warm Startup Problem?

I'm not sure if this is normal for my car, but whenever i start the car warm the rpm's will jump up and drop down really low, close to zero.

About a month ago the car actually dropped to zero and died, but I was able to start it again without problems. It hasn't died on me since but it is still dropping low whenever i start it warm. I was wondering what the problem could be from and how can i fix it?

I have a 2004 wrx with 32k.

sorry, i forgot to mention the car is stock. haven't changed a thing, the car runs perfect other than that startup problem(if it is a problem at all).

Might be the battery problem. My 04 wrx has some problems as well starting. I'm thinking of upgrading to a better battery, as I have heard that it solves this problem by many fellow impreza owners.

You should check the voltage of the battery. When the car is off the voltage should be around 12.5, and when it is on it should be around 13.5 ish. If its lower than that, then you probably have an alternator problem, and would most likely want to replace the battery as well due to the unnecessary draw it would have been dealing with.

FWIW I had a similar problem once with my '02, and my searches at the time lead me to believe it could be a vacuum leak. I had recently changed the air filter and reseating the airbox cover helped.
