VF-34 vs. Stock Turbo
VF-34 vs. Stock Turbo
Is there a major difference in the Pull between the two? This question has been bugging me forever...Thank you. Basically when the starts to spool up, can you actually feel a decent pull with the VF-34? What about with the stock? I dont own a wrx yet, so these two questions were on my mind. Thanks

uh. yeah.
exhaust + up-pipe + ECU reflash on a WRX = ~ 205whp and 202wtq
add VF34/injectors/pump = ~ 250whp and 220wtq
Makes a huge difference. I had a VF34 for about 6,000 miles before parting out my car (less debt more wedding
), and it was an incredible difference. The car pulls like crazy. It's super strong on the highway but not quite as strong as it is at lower speeds. The advantage to the 34 is its quick spool and power delivery. I really liked it.

the vf-34 takes slightly longer to spool compared to the tdo4 (stock turbo)....but, when it does spool just make sure your ready for it
(spools at about 3,300rpm with uppipe, etc.)
the stock turbo has a nice spool at the lower end but poor top end power...the vf-34 has slightly poor low and a kick you in the *** top end.... IMO the vf-34 is a good choice for a daily driver who wants that extra power when needed without sacrificing drivability...

advice: before you start modding your wrx..get to know her first... learn the car and find her limits while she's stock..then start thinking of some kind of engine management (best bang for buck mod). still not satisfied? then look into uppipe/ TBE... still not satisfied? (like most of us) then think about a bigger turbo, bigger injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, etc.
also, every mod should be followed with a new tune to get the most power from that certain mod. (depending on which EM you go with this should be easy and free IE: txs UTEC, cobb SS.
dont forget about the rest of your car too... like suspention, braking, etc.
if I were YOU.. i'd do all of the above, all at once...but i'm not so, take my advice

Had a stock 02 WRX for a week, loved it. Went back to the dealer to find they had a tuned 02 Wagon with a VF-34 Up pipe, downpipe, injectors, exhaust.
The dealer knew little of Subaru's (Mitsubishi dealer) and I had scared him in the stock car. Then when I forced him to ride in the tuned one, he could not believe this was the same car. Totally different.
Needless to say I traded the stock 02 for the tuned one. Cost me a grand extra...but was WELL worth it in the number and quality of the mods done to the 02 Wagon.
The VF-34 is a damn good turbo and if mine happens to go, I would gladly replace it with the same.
Like Rob above said above. Make sure you know what you are doing with the mods. One key thing people new to the game forget about is that the faaster you go...the harder it is to stop and turn.
Brakes and Suspension should (IMO) be upgraded first or at the same time, as well as possible getting the clutch upgraded.
Hope you find what you are looking for. These cars are awesome . Used to drive Nissan Silvia's, Cefiro's and 180sx's while I was in Japan. IF I get the chance to go back...I will be getting an STi.
