....but we do have some 76 Unocal locations who distribute 100+. In fact, there's a station near by me that carries 100 octane at the pump (~$4.50/gal). 5 gallons of that mixed with 11 gallons of 87 octane would equal one full tank of 91 @ a cost of $22.50 (fuel capacity of the WRX is 15.9 gallons).

Bob, You might want to check into the local availability. After compairing costs, this may be an option you can use.

Man, at $22 for a tank of 91 and the two-stage ballet he'd have to go through every fillup, I'd say eat the cost just fill the tank with 91. You're not saving any money from the extra time/effort it takes to go to two stations every time you fill up :P

I wouldn't put up with the hassle, but it's merely a suggestion.

....and actually....yes. He could potentially save money. Using prices here in Lake Forest (since I don't know what it would cost him in his area) 5 gal @ ~$4.50/gal = $22.50 (remember...he doesn't pay for the 10.9 gallons of 87). 91 is ~$2.13/gal which equals $33.87 (a $10 saving on every fill up). I fill up once a week. That would be a savings of a little over $44 a month using my mileage in this scenario.

thanks for the suggestions, but i havent been able to find a station that carries 100 octane in the sacramento area. im not saying that they arent here, but i just dont know where they are and for your idea to be practical for me it would have to be pretty close to my work.

i need to do a search and find how much toulene costs and how much i need to add to 87 oct to get at least 91. that way i could just leave a big jug of it outside by the pumps...

of course if any of you guys know this off the top of your head and wanna save me a search, feel free!

Yeah it's really cheap right now...filled up yesterday for $1.45 for the good stuff!!!!

It's unusally low, even for Ohio....last month is was running $1.75 (which I guess is still low compared to CA)...

I will mix 89 Octane & 93 Octane when my tank of 93 octane goes down to ABOVE the half tank line I will then fill it with 89.

No Probs so far.
