Alright...round two.

I've noticed a strange issue with the boost on my '02. When the RPMs get up around 5k or so in any gear, the turbo "pulses"...by that, I mean it feels and sounds like the turbo is coming on for a second and then fading off, and then back on, and off, etc. It's fine and strong down near 3-4K, but the higher it gets, the more noticable it gets. It's kind of annoying when really going for it on the highway, and really annoying when downshifting to pass someone. Can anyone explain this to me, or suggest a fix to the problem? I've driven other turbo cars before and have never had this happen.

Or am I just crazy?

im no expert but if its not holding boost there may be a leak, or maybe your wastegate is malfunctioning.

i've had this also. don't worry, it's your wastegate controlling boost. do you have a boost controller?

 

Not at the moment. The car is pretty much bone stock, and I'm focusing on some suspension work before I go at the engine. It's just strange...I've never felt a turbo car do this before. It feels like the wastegate is letting go way too early...I can't imagine that i'm seeing full boost at 5K in second gear.
