Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

It does absolutely nothing for the performance of your car except add sound. In fact you may even lose a little power, because your turbo will have to spool up to create more pressure in the intercooler that it lost to the atmosphere creating the sound. Hope that helps ....

The do extend the life of the turbo, that is why Subaru uses one on the car.

The one Subaru uses though doesn't vent to atmosphere though, and that's why you don't get the pshshsh sound. It just redirects the boost right back to the intake, so that the turbo doesn't have to work as hard to extract air. That might be why the turbo doesn't have to work so hard. I think that's what DaWorstPlaya is getting at.

EDIT: quoted wrong guy

On the stock turbo it won't do much. On bigger turbos with higher backpressure, a bov can extend the life of the turbo.

It'll make your car run rich = waste more gas. And sometimes an aftermarket bov can cause idle problems.

Some dealerships will void parts of the warranty for blow off valves, due the the rich running conditions when they vent.

I don't think you guys are understanding what I am saying.

1. From the factory the car comes with a BOV, it's just not venting to the atmosphere. Unhook the recirc hose and viola.

2. The BOV reduces compressor surge which extends the life of the turbo, that is it's primary function, not to help the turbo stay spooled. This just happens to be the effect of having a recirc hose that plumbs back into the intake track. This is only done for reasons of keeping the originally metered air in the system.

3. In the end, running a BOV to the atmosphere to get a sound has nothing to do with performance. If you're not interested in performance and want that sound, great, I could care less.

Bottom line: If you want to keep your car running at the highest level of quality, performance, and reliability that you can, don't vent a BOV to the atmosphere.

I am finished

Yes, unhook the recirculation hose from the BOV.
