Has anyone ever taken a look at the slack in the throttle cable? There seems to be a little room for improvment here. I have yet to view the position of the throttle plate at WOT or test the voltage ofthe TPS at WOT. From past experience on other vehicles, slack in the throttle cable would only allow the throttle plate to open part way not to a full 90 deg. This in turn didn't allow the TPS to reach full 5vdc. Does anyone know whether or not the Subaru ECU logic utilizes the TPS in it's calculations for A:F? What is the TPS output voltage at idle? Does it just send a signal to the ECU to place it in idle control or what? The reason why I am asking this is because from my previous vehicles there is a lot of throttle response to be gain from proper adjustment of the throttle cable.

 

i also noticed all the slack in my throttle cables...on my other car i had it tight enough to have no slack or very little, do you think i should do the same to my WRX. It would make the gas more touchy, might be easier to rev match????any feed back

you could take a little slack out of the cable if you felt like it. i played around with it a little and ended up adjusting it back to where it was. when it seemed like there was very little slack on the cable the throttle was very touchy.

if you want to check the TPS, find someone with Delta Dash and check it with "Live Data Capture." even with the ammount of slack in the cable, i was getting 100% TPS.

 

After replacing my seats in my 2002 WRX Wagon, I have been getting a CEL of P0123 (High TPS Value). I used the Xmap software of my Xede to check my TPS readings. They go from 12% with the throttle closed to 80% with WOT. I just replaced the TPS and it has the same values. The values normalize if I turn the TPS sensor counter-clockwise 15 degrees. I looked into the throttle body and it is completely closed when the throttle is off. Any Idea's

 

Is it possible for the shaft through the the throttle plate to twist. If I were to loosen the 2 screws in the throttle plate would it rotate 10-15 degrees on the shaft?

 

no it will not.

the shaft is slotted and the butterfly plate fits in the slot.

 

So any ideas how the resolve the bizarre TPS readings.
The car runs ok at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, but floor it and it has no power.

 

Yep for both the cruise control and throttle. I like the instant response rather than the "step on it and wonder" oem set up.

and that would be . . . what?

personally I don't like the feeling of stepping on the go pedal and waiting to feel the point of engagement.

likewise, i don't like a jerky cruise control system.
