TGV Delete for 05 WRX

Getting my TGV's deleted tomorrow at GST. I guess my bank1 motor is going out and causing a CEL. Santa Cruz suby dealership quoted me $1612 to go in and replace both units to fix the problem. Decided to just have the valves removed by GST and have the error codes removed from the ECU to save some money. Has anyone in the Bay Area had their TGV's removed? What is your opinion on having this done? Any trouble with cold morning starts? Any replies are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

You can pass smog just fine without them too!

I deleted them on mine. Never had any rough idling or hard starts since the switch. I got a few codes from it that was removed when I was tuned. I added some Grimmspeed Phenolic Thermal Spacers while I was in there thats suppose to reduce heat also. The biggest pain was getting the gaskets, spacers, tgv deletes to all line up nicely and torqued back down. I spent a while trying to get all those pieces lined up correctly. I eventually ended up cutting a clothes hanger into little straight rods and sliding all the parts down them to keep it all aligned.

That's a pretty genius idea! Ya I read that doing it yourself isn't the easiest job and I need to get smogged before June 28th so that's why I'm just letting the guys at GST tackle it and get it done so I can get rid of the CEL and get my new registration taken care of. The people at GST also said that getting smogged shouldn't be an issue once they clear the associated CEL's. I guess I'm just a little over paranoid due to the fact that I have headers/crossover pipe and an uppipe that do not appear to be factory.. I threw my stock DP back on so I'm just crossing my fingers that I'll be good to go as far as they're concerned.

Got it done, passed my smog, time to swap in the FUN DP and go back to Stage2 tune. No strange idling issues during cold starts yet. Runs great! Definitely recommend doing this mod if one of your TGV motors is going out. Saves a ton of money and gives you a little more power ta boot!
