Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Can PCMs be swapped (for use with TGV delete castings)

I just installed some OEM TGV delete housings. As expected I have 4 codes. I am wondering if the PCM from a JDM STI or WRX with a 2.0 would work with an american car. How much of a diferance is there with the turbo, injectors, and so on. Would I need to make the modifications to those items to run the PCM on a stock turbo and injector WRX. I Would assume that a USDM STI with a 2.5 would be a bad PCM swap? Thats where I was told the valves came from. What other possibilities do I have to get this check engine light out for these codes only.

jdm wrx would work. you will need a reflash, and you will not be able to pass an OBD2 test.

usdm sti will not work.

other possibilities? rig up something to trick the tumbler motors and sensors into thinking they're still attached to the car and running properly.

Ok, for a JDM WRX pcm why would I need a re-flash? Is it a higher or lower tune that the usdm wrx.

APS makes TGVless housings and has little trick boxes. Whats in them and how do I duplicate that or buy those APS units?

the magic boxes literally connect the servo motors directly to the sensors. it also comes with a harness extension. you plug it all it, stash the magic box somewhere, and the ecu doesn't know that everything has been moved around!

You might be able to replicate the APS units by hacking apart your stock TGV housing and coupling the servo and sensors. Of course if you screw it up you're SOL .

New2MeSuby,
Other than the codes, how does the car run?

It runs like crap, I posted a second thread about a bad hesitation. Its a disaster. I have no power between 3800-5000 rpm and then it seems to really pull to redline from 5000 up. I don't know if this is normal. I checked my fuel trims and their ok so I am quite sure I don't have an intake leak or vacuume line off. I really need to do something to fix this, but I'm not rich so I am limited. I was thinking of a JDM pcm since those cars doen't even have tgv's. But I don't know what turbos, compression, injectors or anything else is on a jdm so I may make my problem worse. And to top it off I cant replicate the aps boxes being that one of my tgv motors is so rusted it will not move.

Is your ecu pulling timing and running in "limp" mode? Others have machined out the stock TGVs and left the shaft in place so the ecu still thinks its there. I was thinking of just forking over the $$$s for the APS units and actually using it as a base for a completely new sheet metal intake manifold.
