I've got an 05 wrx sport wagon, actually second one since the first was a lemon, with 3600 miles on it as of now. This second one has been performing great, no issues like the first one. Just the other day I fired the damn thing up and I was confronted by an abnoxious and very loud tapping from the motor. If I slightly revved the vehicle the tapping increased in speed. Eventually it stopped after the sucker warmed up. Obviouslly this has something to do with lubrication.

Valve lifters should not be bleading on a vehicle with 3600 miles. They should not be bleading (if at all) until a vehicle has somewhere over 100,000 miles.

Should I be concerned about this tapping? Should I go back to the dealer and have it looked at? I recorded the sound to minidisc the night it happened, but didn't catch it quick enough to capture the full effect. Eventually I will and I will post an MP3 so others can hear.

Yes, you should be concerned about an engine noise that noticeable. Does the car reproduce the sound whenever the engine is cold? Engine oil level okay? If so, I would schedule an appointment soon and let the dealer handle it under warranty service.
