It's always a good idea to upgrade your brakes first if you're planning on adding more power ... stainless steel brake lines and more aggressive pads, at least. A catless uppipe and downpipe are also good, cost effective mods (you can usually find them for cheap on ebay or the classifieds here) that will improve turbo spool and hp some.

From all the research I have done (just bought and 02) you really need to get into the ECM before doing anything else.
The Cobb Tuning Accessport seems to be the general favorite

I'd go for a gutted OEM up-pipe, whole turbo-back system (hi-flow cat or decatted, depends on how much you love mother Earth ^_^), stainless-steel brake lines with upgraded pads and an adjustable rear sway bar with upgraded endlinks. I would suggest playing with the ECU after putting on basic engine/power mods as that would better accomodate your mods rather than to tune the ECU for a bone-stock engine then throw on the mods.

I'd say do the Cobb AP, then gather up whatever else you want to do (TBE, up-pipe, yada yada yada) and put it all on at once and get a custom tune. As for how you get the power, you can upgrade the exhaust, get a bigger turbo, pretty much anything.

+1 for the AccessPort! They are very user friendly!

I would also agree on some brakes and simple suspension mods to tighten it up a little bit.

thanks for the info....yea i was thinking about going with some suspension work. does upgrading your brakes really a must? im just basically planning to get a turbo-back, up-pipe, and an accessport. im gonna have to wait to upgrade my turbo and other engine parts. i was researching some turbos and i came across the 18g...what does the 18g handle compare with the vf34?

If you want to go fast, you should be able to stop fast, IMO.

sounds like you're on the right track with the turbo back, uppipe and AP. And def do the brakes lines and fluid while you're at it.

As a general rule, for every dollar you spend in go fast mods you should try to spend at least half in brake upgrades. Power means nothing if you can't control it or stop effectively .
