Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

are the stock turbo's on the 03 wrx supposed to rust easily?

just took a look under my hood and noticed that the turbo is turning brown and it looks like it's rusting. is this normal? my car is an 03 and has only been driven for about 11,000 miles.

i took out my stock catback exhaust after 1000 miles or so and some parts of it are brown too. Dunno if it's rust though. I'm sure it happens to all cars.

Turbines are generally cast iron. (So, yes )

The steel/iron components and hardware on and around the turbo will tend to rust due to the high heat levels, it's normal. At 11K it's just surface rust and purely cosmetic.

Yeah all the pipes seem to have a little brown on them after awhile. Entire turboback and uppipe had some brown patches on them when those were taken out.

heat accelerates oxidation.

it's cast iron, and plenty thick.

You think that looks bad, take a look at your exhaust manifold!
