Can i just plug the diverter hose and let the stock bov vent into the atmosphere? will this set off a check engine light? the hks bov is on backorder and maybe this will work instead.

what is the difference between the stock bov and an aftermarket bov? my friend had the hks and turboxs bovs that vented out into the atmosphere and had no idle problems or cel
it'll work just fine, just some stock bov tend to leak or have a weaker spring compared to aftermarket BOVs, but you can plug the recirc hose and vent the stock on to atmo.
again, venting anything to atmo, will cost you to run rich...

Main difference is that the factory part does not vent anything to the atmosphere. It is sometimes called a compressor bypass valve.

The difference is that the engine was deseigned to operate with a Bypass valve, NOT a 'BOV'...they are not the same.
The correct valve is supplied by Subaru, and vents metered(by the MAF) air back into the intake to control fueling, and this is why venting this metered air to the atmosphere is not the right thing for the engine.
Why do so many people insist on doing such things to their engines and then wonder why they run like ship?
