Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

The scoobysport is fine, but for the money it should look better.
You need to read the MRT (and Nasioc) forums. MRT is getting ripped right now for their stuff rusting out after 2 and 3 years. Not cool. Sure 25 years is overkill. So is my Borla Milion mile warranty but 1 year (like Stromung) doesn't cut it. If they COULD warrant it for 25 years, they should. They would probably sell more.

Yeah and ScoobySport owners are also getting ripped off when they buy those exhausts. When it comes to welding, LOOKS has A LOT to do with performance. Its the difference between a good weld and a bad weld, just by looking at it. Just cuz the welds are gigantic and nasty looking doesnt mean it strong...

There are MANY exhausts out there with questionable build quality and more than questionable welds. That is why I do not care to buy many of these exhausts. I make my own or have em custom built. ONLY exhaust out there that I would buy is the JIC ones cuz I have personally examined the build quality.

How do these warranties work, btw? If you have a problem with an exhaust, do you have to remove it and ship it back to the manufacturer for inspection? Or do they replace the whole exhaust sight unseen?

just curious,

Got a Scoobysport back in September and absolutely love it...not the prettiest piece for sure, hand welded, and they're still coming from H&S in England (at least mine did).

The wait was 4 weeks but well worth it...ordered from Rallyperformance and came in exactly when they said it would (they order in batches and usually have them all sold before they get here, hence the wait)...

Shiv, I'm not exactly sure how the warranty works -- pretty sure you have to take it off and send it back in...which would certainly be a bummer! I can't imagine anything rusting through on it though...the welds are overkill for what it is - I've seen skimpier welding on the cargo bays of heavy dump trucks...and the stainless steel is pretty thick (not sure what gauge but was still lighter overall than the stock muffler)

And to say that just because something is made out of Stainless steel it will never rust through is total BS...not all stainless is the same. It will still rust and pit depending on the quality of the manufacturing process and how 'even' the blend is...so that's why many of you probably have small spots of rust here and there on your SS exhausts (especially combined with heat)...sure it comes off easy but it still rusts...German stainless steel surgical instruments rust, but nowhere near as much as those made in Pakistan (also stanless steel, but they rust quite quickly actually), so you still have to do some level of maintenance/cleaning to keep it from pitting...but the assumption that stainless steel won't rust through is wrong, the time it takes to happen is more a function of the materials engineering, manufacturing process, and environmental conditions...heat, water, and electrolytes from junk on the road will certainly expedite the oxidation process on SS exhaust components...

The tip of the scoobysport doesn't stick out too far, not much more than stock...but enough that if you have a lighter colored car you're not going to be cleaning exhaust residue off your rear bumper and trunk lid as much (aerodynamically there's a vortex behind the car that makes a lot of the exhaust come back and come in contact with the car anyway)...and the sound is similar to sound files posted on the internet but deeper (computer speakers just don't doo well with bass)...

Overall I love it...the sound is throaty and mellow and comes alive when the turbo starts to kick in...no popping, nice grumble effect when you let off the gas...really improves the driving experience of the car and not an artifical exhaust sound like a lot of the fart cans out there on 'other brands' of cars...7 months and I still love driving with the radio off...really lets the engine nose out there...and its not too loud (95 dB I think), but definitely louder than stock, and you can still have a conversation. Turbo does start to kick in around 2600 RPM when it was around 2900-3200 before and the throttle is more responsive (not a lot, but noticably so)...I really believe it's a functional piece for low RPM, and there is a bit more low end torque, if you want serious high end torque then you need 3" ...I'm not racing mine and don't need to get to 120 MPH quickly...getting to 85 quickly is fun enough for me...(not that I go that fast either, just for the record )...does it need to last 25 years...heck no! Would I like it to look like it did when I bought it for the next 4-5 years...yes!

Honestly there are a lot of great exhausts out there, and the WRX certainly benefits from them...just a taste thing...The scoobysport just makes the car sound like its got a bit of snot under the hood in a mellow throaty way that's still civilized...

There's a pic of it here:

The brittish know how to make damn good parts for cars...brits have been racing their MGs and whatnot with their tiny little engines forever and they know how to maintain them well. I would trust Scoobysport and Prodrive over any other brand personally... Well worth their prices for the quality of products.

Yes, H&S has been designing systems for years...especially for Subarus as well...I believe they do experimental work for Lotus as well...
