where did you hear good things about the short am? i dont think its worth it because removing the silencer from the stock intake is good for 300hp...plus the hp gain probably wouldnt be much ...pullies are a better value

Belts that vicariously connect to your crankshaft are used to power various auxilliary components of your engine... like the water pump and alternator. This gives you what's called "parasitic loss" of power. In fact the pully itself is a parasite. Just that much more weight/force against the engine. Making that pulley lighter and/or smaller reduces the amount of energy needed to turn it, energy that can be regained towards your the other side of the crankshaft... where the wheels are.

Note, if you lighten it by making it smaller you get less belt turned for each rotation of the pulley. This can cause the alternator to not provide as much current to the electrical system. Generally this is not a problem unless you have a heavy sound system or something else that's drawing gobs of juice.
