Perrin or Samco
Hey guy's,I got my 2004 WRX wagon about two weeks ago. I've never owned a turbocharged car. WOW! It's a little wimpy down low but as soon as I hear that little whistle, she's gone! I'm pretty sure about my upgrade path(Turbo XS stage 2) but I'm thinking about putting silicone hoses on the car. I'm kind of wierd when it comes to continuity so my question is this...I like the set of Samco coolant hoses but I don't want to use them with the Perrin intercooler, induction pipe, radiator hoses. Is Perrn a better quality hose than Samco and are the Perrin easier to install? The Perrin look like they might be made a little better and the website says that because of their design they are easier to install. Thanks for your opinion.

i've got a set of the Perrins, and the differance between them and the Samcos is pretty minimal. i can't imagine the they would be that differant installation wise either. hell, you could buy the Perrin ones for the I/C and run them with the Samcos and no one would ever know. you can only really see one of the three hoses without looking *really* hard.

I have heard that the perrin hoses are 5-ply, compaired to 3-ply, as well I have heard that the interior of the hoses is smoother...
but, I have not had the opertunity to compair for myself, so it is all what I hear.
I will be getting the perrin units when I upgrade though, same price, and everyone I hear says they are better quality.

Check out the Vishnu hoses. There is a pictre of the Vhishnu hose next to the Samco hose for a comparison. I have no experience with the product, but it is the one I'm considering getting.

I have the Vishnu IC hoses, Mr. sonicsuby. Works as advertised but never had the Samco hoses to compare them to. Vishnu claims that their kit fits better than the Samco but neither kit can be made perfect because of the way the various outlets and openings face on the WRX.
You'll spend a few minutes twisting them around on the connections, trying to envision the way it'll sit on the car when the hoses are out of sight. I didn't have a camera handy but it couldn't hurt to shoot a pic of the old plastic pre-formed job while it is still attached to the intercooler - might help to see how they were oriented (I love that word) on the fittings.
Also, check out Egan's Samco hose install. His tutorial saved me from possibly cutting my Vishnu IC hose kit.
I don't think there is a big difference between the Vishnu and Samco. Shiv told me that the Samco gives pretty much the same benefit. The Samco kit can be found in the Vendors forum for about $125 in various colors (Vishnu kit is available in colors, too).

i've heard some people complain about having to cut the samcos in order for them to fit. can anyone comment on that? also, vishnu claims that their hoses fit better than samcos. So I suppose im going to go with either the vishnus or perrins. Any problems with having to cut these hoses? Which have a better fit? Who's got the best deal? etc..
thanks

i had 2 samco IC hoses and never had to cut them (one in blue on in red) and i haven't seen any samco hoses being cut at the shop that i goto every weekend.
i think the difference between each hose is minimal. i just got samcos because when i got the IC hoses they were the only one availiable. i say one says samco other one says perrin and that is pretty much it.
