new to this, need help on air intakes
My dad just bought a 2004 wrx wagon, he loves it to death, however he has never been much of a tuner. So for christmas I want to get him an intake. I have done a lot of reasearch online. will the wrx 03 intakes fit in the new 04 wrx's? is it the same engine compartment for all the wrx years? Also do cold air intakes really make that much of a difference? What about just a standard KN cone filter and take out the whole air intake box? What would you recomend? Im really newb so the whole subaru scene so help me out! Thanks in advance.

do search on intakes. They aren't needed on a turbo car.. i went throught two intakes before i figured that out. Instead get your father a K&N filter.
If you're looking to spend $200 or so get the man an uppipe.
If your old man doesn't want to void any warrantiee then look into a rear strut bar and install it for him.
You'll get more input on this soon enough

A bit more prices, bit you might want to consider getting him a catback exhaust. If he's not much of a tuner then he'll probably be able to at least appreciate the nice boxer rumble... and still gain a few horsepower

Here's a description of what a CAI does to the WRX (and STi).

For the millionth time, don't waste your money and risk your car's health with a CAI. Don't get a short-ram unless you're making over 300hp. Take out the silencer and drop in a Green panel filter.

don't waste your money, first mod was an aem cold air intake, leaned me out, lost low-midrange power, lost drivablity, went back to stock with the gpmoto intake delete elbow, stock filter, i'm happy...use the money for turboback, uppipe, or ecu reflash.
