you will hear it when the engine is under boost and load. mainly durring acceleration. there is no way to listen to it when you are not driving. the best way is to put it on a dyno, and have someone who knows what it sounds like stand next to the car and listen for it.

Some have described the sound as "BB's in a coffee can".
Part throttle high/full boost can be a real killer as far as knock is concerned.

turbo flutter? I think that may be what I hear. I asked about this already, and I thought it was ping, since it sounded like a ping, but it was softer (not as harsh) and it sounded like it was coming from my transmission area, which I guess could make sense for turbo flutter, if that is what it sounds like.

am I correct in this?

just tell the service advisor you are concerned about the sounds, and that you would like to go on a drive with a technician so that he can identify the sounds. they should not charge you for it, and if it is something that will need to be fixed the technician will let you know, or he will tell you that it is no big deal.

just be sure that you go on a ride with a tech, and not your service advisor, the service advisors generally don't know that much about cars, they just write them up.
