need advice on custom exhaust

Hey guys I've been searching around here on i-club and nasioc and can't seem to find a definite answer so I thought I'd post a question. Here is what I want: not too loud of an exhaust and won't smell when I'm catless.

Here is what I'm thinking about doing:

Gutting the stock uppipe
Helix or some other dp
Custom 2.5 inch midpipe
Sti axleback (keep it quiet)

Would this setup be beneficial or even possible?

Thanks for your help/advice guys!

Sounds like a nice setup and shouldn't get too much of the wrong attention. (cops or thieves). Your mid-pipe and axleback aren't going to make that much of a difference however after gutting the UP and going aftermarket DP (and EM) you might actually notice a difference when you change the resonator and axle-back. The main benefit from an aftermarket cat-back is better flow from straightened bends. Your biggest power gains with exhaust are going to be the UP/DP and manifold crossover-pipe.

GL and you might check out youtube for any clips of what you're looking to do or find someone local that has a similar setup such as an STi that has a catless DP (since they already have catless UP and the same axleback as what you're looking to install).

Turbo XS makes a midpipe for the WRX and STI on oakos.com if you are looking for an aftermarket one.

Yea i know but for some reason certain exhausts smell more than others to me...I could be just crazy but yea. Yea I just figured having a sti exhaust muffler I could say it is a subaru stock muffler.

lol, when I got pulled for a speeding I got "modified exhaust" on the ticket on my stock '05 WRX. (I'm fighting it of course cuz the cop was an idiot, got me for the exhaust but he didn't say anything about not having a front plate). The '05 WRX is large single tip same as STi.

If you don't want something as loud don't go catless. If you don't really care, HKS has a pretty nice catless DP. I'd suggest that. No smell, but again it's pretty loud. But most of it will get elimited by the axelback you put on./

Go 3".

With an aftermarket 3" downpipe, wouldn't you need an adapter for the 2.5" exhaust piping?
I would assume, otherwise you're going to have a leak, and your not going to want to leave your windows down... But then again, it's starting to get cold anyway.

Sounds like a good exhaust combo to me.
If you go catless it will be louder and you will
smell some unburnt fuel.Being in CA I would
spend the extra dough and get a catted mid pipe
but,it's your car.
