You've already got the up-pipe on there. That's all they need to deny warranty.

Did they look at the car at all when you brought it in? Any diagnostics at all? Or did they just say you could do the cats if that's what you thought it was?

Basically I told them that I was almost positive that the problem was with a plugged cat. They agreed, but then the service guy could not get the go ahead from his boss to replace the problem right there, specificly because they did not know if that was the problem. There was no CELs at all, thus no proof of an issue. SO - I'll just have to wait until the Subaru Factory rep. rides with me. I am not keeping my hopes up!

DJ Catchem - how long til you get your new turbo back? I want to know if clears up the issue. What brand are you thinking of? I am inches from going with the Vishnu, as that would match everything else I have.

Your thoughts? - anyone elses thoughts?

I basically had the garage do a full diagnostic on the car. They tested everything inside and out and discovered the cats to be the problem. You should have the garage do that. They'll test the intake for leaks, check boost levels, check fuel pressure, and so on. There's no doubt that the cat is my problem. Have them do a diag and you'll know for sure.

I'm looking into a purchase this month. I need to secure a place that can do the up-pipe install around here, and I'll be set. I'm really leaning toward the Helix setup at this point, but the Borla Hush is also a consideration. Can't go wrong with the Vishnu stuff either.

Interesting - I may it checked out by an outside garage, however, at this point it should be fixed under warranty. We will see what happens. At the moment I am installing a grounding setup to see if it helps. I will post with outcomes after a test drive later tonight.

Noticable improvement with the new grounding - however, same hesitation still exists.

Maybe it is my cat!?

I tried the grounding mod at that point too, with similar results. Do you have a boost gauge on your car? Where is the boost at when the hesitation occurs?

I'm still betting cat. And I really sincerely doubt warranty will cover yuo with that up-pipe in place, but I wish you luck. =)

DJ Catchem - problem starts when the boost starts to come on. I do have a boost gage, which is showing full boost and no fluttering or anything out of the ordinary -

I still am no closer to the issue than I was before I started this thread, except that the problem maybe with a clogged cat (thank you DJ Catchem).

If/when i find this issue I will post an update.

I am so pissed about this issue that I have parked my frickin' car! I am forced to drive my '86 Toyota PU with over 202,000 miles on it.

I WANT MY CAR BACK TO NORMAL!!!

Put on the Vishnu turbo back exhuast system and no more hesitations, or if I have them they are barely noticable. Turbo makes lots of noises though. Full boost though, and no sign of an exhaust leak. Can't figure it out.

SO - DJ catchem, the exhaust made a huge difference! My car sounds sweet too. Let us know if you get exhaust and if it helps out.

Fantastic! That makes me feel good about my prognosis as well. My Helix Up-Pipe is in the mail, which is the first step for me. By the end of Feb., I should have my turbo-back in place. By the sounds of it, that may be the answer. Congratulations! Keep me posted after you get a good amount of time with the system on. Hopefully, this is it.

for sure. You Vishnu guys pointed me in the right direction on this one with a quick phone call. I'll be in touch soon enough for that turbo-back myself. =)

...and then the re-flash...=)

the clogged cat scenario is easy to test.

remove the front o2 sensor (the one in the manifold) and insert a pressure gauge.

stumbling around the 50% throttle area could be front o2 sensor related, or maf related, since that throttle position is close to the closed/open loop transition (~65% iirc). if you know anyone else with a rex, swap front o2 sensors with them, and then swap MAF sensors with them.
