to some its just a car, to some its a hobby...

then there are those who know how crappy it can be to have your car all ****ed up because some jackass decided that he was too busy for your cheap $19.99 to torque the oil drain spilling it all over 101 north which you promptly notice and slow down for, which is noticed 5 seconds too late by the car behind you, who's now activated ABS sends his car (or hers, i guess) into your leg as you start to get out of the car.... but hey, its your precious time away from your "old lady".

man, you guys are really upset that some people would rather pay someone to change thier oil than do it themselves, huh?
just trying to assess his priorities. if i had his logic, i don't see why i'd care what oil i had if i was planning on getting rid of the car quickly.

I also have to go to a store and buy oil and filters. I can pull into my dealer and be out in less than an hour and not even get dirty. I just wanetd to know if mobil one is better or not.
I'm with you man ..... here's how I see it ..... the filters costs $6 from the dealership (I know you can buy it from the internet, bulk, for a lot cheaper) and the Moble 1 costs me $20 at Walmart. I take the car into the dealership with my own oil, they charge me $15 to change it (includes the cost of the oil filter, windsheild wiper top off). It costs me $9 to have someone else with the right tools to change my oil, check all the fluids, etc ..... total cost $35 out of which $26 was for materials not bad. Personally I would rather be driving my car than working on it

Thanks man I thought i was alone.

I do care about my car. I am just realistic insaying that i will probably not have it at 100,000 miles. If the mobil 1 is better than the SOA oil i just want to know. My dealer said that he would take the price of the oil off the oil change if i brought in my own oil. So if mobil one is better that is probably what i will do.

You obviosly had a really bad time with others changing your oil. I don't think that 100, 000 mile is quick. 10,000 miles a year time 10 years is 100, 000 miles. How many miles a year do you put on your car? I don't drive it alot in the winter, i also have a 4x4 pick up for the really bad days.(Sits up higher not such a snow plow like the wrx)

I use Mobil 1 because I have seen first hand experience that it is better in extreme cold conditions. On the diesel generators I maintain in central alaska we use Mobil 1. We used to use regular oil that we got from our supply system. We now pay a lot more for Mobil 1 because the cost of engine replacements is much more then the cost of oil.

Now keep in mind the engines I am speaking of are left outside in temperatures of -50F and people try to start them at those temperatures. Batteries dont usually do it, so we jump them with another generator that has a 28.5VDC 1500amp output on it. These are 24v systems and they start in very cold temperatures in large part due to the oil we use. The old arctic oil could cause engines to sieze in just a couple years or less. A couple starts at -50 could cause them to freeze with old oil in them. We change our oil every 6 months or 1 year depending on usage.

I cant say if it's Mobil 1 thats great or just synthetic oil. But I've never heard anything bad about Mobil 1.

I have used Mobil 1 since 3K miles and the OE Subaru filter. Mobil 1 exceeds the stringent SJ standards (a brutal test) by far and offers one of the best cold-start protection advantages around. Mobil 1 has also rated well in friction-loss tests, consistently making more hp than other synth oils (depending on viscosity), and easily outperforming conventional oils.
In my old race motor, I would sometimes see cam-lobe to follower wear running Kendall Gt1 or Valvoline (after the zinc package was pulled in the early 1990's), after changing to Mobil 1, absolutely no abnormal (or almost detectable wear), despite an increase in spring pressure.

I would advise letting your WRX put 3K miles on it (varied load) to burnish rings to cylinder walls, then go for Mobil 1.

By the way, not taking sides with ANYONE here, but I change my own oil, plugs and tire rotation, only because I enjoy it. I like crawling under my WRX and looking at all those parts I'm paying for every month, and gives me a chance to look for any leaks (brake fluid...p/s fluid....gear oil.....whatever). I'm confident in my own work, when I'm done I know the job is done right.
But if you don't enjoy it.....it's better to have SOMEBODY do it (dealer or not), instead of putting it off because you don't like doing it (besides the dealer or most good independent shops will mail you a reminder to let you know your due service is coming up).

Hey...not everybody wants to cook their own dinner either.

Go for the Mobil 1 and enjoy your WRX.
