What's the best way to launch on re92's? same as any other tire? I've got the stock re92's on my wrx right now, and when I launch, they chirp before they grip. Is this normal, or am I not launching it well?? Thanks for the help.

 

I have gotten an chirp once or twice too during high rpms clutch slipping launches. God I love launching my car, but I hate that I'm on my second clutch and if I keep going to the race track and drag racing etc. then I will go through another clutch in 30k. But thats what you have to do I guess in order to prevent driveline shock and get good 60'. I think I might just launch at an lower rpm and try to get 2.0 60' from now on, save the clutch alittle.

 

Get rid or the RE92s they suck. I have found nothing that they do well (or even o.k.) - but I guess that is to be expected from an all season.

 

what kind of tires do you guys recommend? I need them to be cheap...relatively cheap at least...

 

I wish my tires would just chirp. I spin all the way through 1st gear.

For relatively cheap good tires I would recommend either Kumho Escta (712s or MXs), Yokohoma AVS ES100, and my favorite the Falken Azenis Sport.

 

That's strange. I cut 1.7's and 1.8's all the time with the stock RE92's. Search around and I think you'll find some other people that will tell you the same thing. I'd rather have the front tires spin a little than have by clutch burnt out or worse, my tranny go south.

 

A little wheel spin is not necessarily a bad thing when abusing the car. However, the stock tires still do suck - especially if you care about handling. If you want to only go in a straight line with stock power levels then the RE92s are probably all you need. If you want to actually drive the car hard then the stock tires are horribly deficient. Keep in mind that my idea of a spirited drive involves windy mountain roads, etc.

 

I understand what you're saying and I agree with you. I replaced my stock rims/tires with 900 miles on the car for the very same reason.

However, they don't totally suck.

I put the stock rims and re92's back on my car for drag racing and they work perfectly. Alot better than my Kumho 712's.

To get the best launch out of them I hold the rev's at 3k. When the first green light goes on I floor it with my foot still on the clutch. By the time the last light comes on I take my foot off the clutch (usually around 5000-5500.) I get some wheel spin (not the best for the clutch or the wheels but it takes some shock from the tranny.) I have maybe 40 passes on the stock tires/clutch/tranny without a glitch. Most of those runs were in the 12.7-13.2 range as well.
