Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

larger TMIC...need a re-flash?

I'm in a bit of a quandry. I've got an AVO TMIC that I haven't yet installed. and I also just read the SCC article about the issues they had with the APS TMIC (retarded timing, pinging and very little power gain). I'm aware that the APS is a signifacantly larger TMIC (677 cubic inches vs. 459) and this may have contributed to some of the problems (MAFs can be touchy at times). But my concern is whether or not I'm going to need a dyno tune for this add-on?
Seeing as I'm east-coast and Vishnu is west-coast that doesn't seem practical. I'm currently running a Vishnu Uni-Chip with VF-22, STi injectors, 255 lph fuel pump, custom 3" turbo-back, catless up-pipe and stock intake. I'm also well aware that the Uni-Chip has fallen out of favor with most tuning shops.
So...anyone have any experience with AVO TMICs and know of any issues I should be aware of? Should I just bolt-on and see what happens? It's not a difficult swap.

Just bolting it on won't make much of a difference, except for when it gets heat soaked (as in the SCC article). Then you will notice a loss of power due to timing being pulled. But if you get a retune to take advantage of it before it is heatsoaked you can probably squeeze out some more power.

That's what I would expect as well. But I'm wondering if this is a situation where I can have a re-flash done, or does it require a dyno-tune? In which case, it is probably not worth it.
