since when has an intake contributed to more smog? you really think K&N's design produces less pollution than your average EBAY intake?!? (not saying you should get an EBAY intake cuz it really messes with your MAFS due to no R&D)

these big name intakes actually do make power... whether its cuz they have to trick the MAFS or its cuz they actually do provide cooler air and more air... if not, it would not be sold.

Now if you like to tune the car with off the shelf ECU's you can just slap on, then stay away from intakes.

i havent done any testing with thermocouples or anything like that.

I have a Typhoon, and people have said since that the intake is in the wheels well, and the tubing travels in the engine compartment, it is going to heat up to the same temperature anyways...... dunno if that is true or not...... i think it has a better flow, less restrictive..........

so what we've reached here is really another CAI thread, and by saying this, no real performance gains would be made with this KN CAI, just like any other CAI

ARC is an elite tuner from japan. all of their stuff is mucho dinero, if you can find it at all in the states. they make an intake for wrx that uses a larger then stock panel filter. very nice box. if you do a search for arc, you can see some pix of it.

Nope nope and nope. You go to the federal inspectors and they look over their list of things that are illegal to put on your car. They see K&N Cold Air Intake system on the list and look for the California state emissions sticker. I like mine and my car spools faster since I got it. Stock spool is around 3500 and when you put it in you see decrease to around 3000 RPM's. I love the way it sounds too. Get a BOV with the CAI and you have a car that sounds like a race engine.

...has anyone thought about the idea of putting a cold air direct feed into the standard air box?
How about the intake mod that Sisqocqk used?

Stick to stock, w/ silencer removed if you are so inclined. Then drop in a Green panel filter; it's better than the K&N. CAI's are useless on the WRX; short rams are good if you are making big (300+) horsepower (Blitz LM and HKS Racing Suction are good choices in this case). The ARC box intake is good if you intend on rallying the car: less chance of dirt clots than on a cone or mushroom filter.

They're not very common, but there's a few threads around here with links to Green filter vendors. Try running a search. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful
