Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

It wont flood as long as you teach your I/C to swim.

You only want a very light mist, it's the water evaporating that cools the IC. Too much spray and you soak it preventing it from evaporating and that can be counterproductive keeping the heat in.

i dont think water is going to act as an insulator and prevent heat from escaping in case you soak it. the heat from the IC is whats causing the evaporation. if you spray just a fine mist for a second or two, its going to evaporate quickly, and therefor would only exchange a small amount of heat. the more you spray, the more will evaporate, provided there is enough heat to evaporate an amount of water.

my concern wouldnt be 'soaking' the intercooler, but where the water is going to run off when it hasnt all been evaporated. i wouldnt want my spray dripping and causing something under the IC to rust.

The latent heat of vaporization is larger than the specific heat of water. If you put so much water on the IC that it prevents the ability to evaporate it will be counterproductive.

From the MRT website:

The specific heat of water is 1 calorie or 4.184 joules absorbed to HEAT 1gram of water by 1degC

The latent heat of water is 540 calories or 2260 joules absorbed to EVAPORATE 1gram of water.

In other words the heat absorbed by water is negligible (in massive volume sense NO evaporation) BUT when it is evaporated the benefits are huge.

around 5 to 10 times greater
