As for 3-ply/5-ply... no clue. Sorry.

. As far the ply of the silicone, I believe more layers would be more rigid and hold charged air better? I suppose the difference between 3 and 5-ply is negligible unless you're running some serious boost.

Perrin is 5 ply and the Samco is 3. how it evens out is that each ply of the 5 ply is a little thinner than each ply of the 3 ply. (follow me? ) so the result is almost the same thickness between the two manufactures. as for the price difference, well i'm not sure about that.
although, i think Samco is now using 5 ply, so that the two companies are similar.

Wow. People are paying $170 for Samco hoses? I got my set for $110 from a local vendor. To get to the clamp for the BOV, use a set of 45 or 90 degree needle nose pliers. I played around with it for a half hour before I grabbed my pliers. When I used the pliers, it was a breeze.
The only bad thing about the hoses is that I don't think they are legal for STX.

Which vendor? MPJ offers the Samco IC hose kit for $120 (shipped, I think).

Just did this install. As everyone says the BOV hose is a kinda a PITA. There are two small hoses that block access to the clamp that is hard to get too. After I took out those hoses it was much easier to get my pliers in there to loosen the clamp. Just remember to put the small hoses back on.
Speaking of Solo II STX, does anyone know if the IC hoses are legal for STX? The rules don't mention anything about IC hoses, so I think that they are legal. I was just wondering what other people think.
