New intercooler hoses always make sense. Go ahead and do it. Nevertheless, look for a used set.

I did the install in about 30 minutes standing in the driveway while my wife watched... everything except the hose to the BOV. That thing is kind of a Beotch. I got mine from Vishnu, but get ready for a wait if you order from them--call first.

As for performance, I was not really expecting anything from them and was PLEASANTLY surprised when I installed them.

*Warning: Butt dyno story follows*

After I put them in I took off out of my driveway. I live at the bottom of a hill and was going out to Blockbuster with the wife in the car. I turned the corner onto the hill and accelerated like I normally do and got spool up earlier and MUCH more solidly than with the stock hoses. I can't give you numbers, but it seems that I got spool about 100-200 RPM earlier than I had. I also dropped my 1/4 mile time by .2, but some of that may have been driving practice.

*End of Butt-dyno story*

If you need help removing the intercooler, you have no business modifying this car. The intercooler comes off for almost everything you need to do. It's a matter of removing four bolts, one screw, and pulling it off. Reinstalling the intercooler is much more difficult with the stock "hose" but with aftermarket hoses, it's a breeze.

I guarantee you can change the intercooler hoses. If you can't, don't mess with anything under the hood unless you have a lot of money to pay someone else to do your work.

MAF and lean condition with IC hoses

You are safe running IC hoses. All you are doing is allowing air to move more freely after it has already been sucked through the MAF. Therefore the MAF is still getting an accurate reading.

As for 3-ply/5-ply... no clue. Sorry.

Make sure you have a needle nose pliers for installing the BOV hose. I didn't notice a difference after I put it on (ran without it for a week) but there might be one. As for bling, you can't really see the BOV hose.

Install was not too bad. I went to ScoobyMods.com to look at the photos and text, first. I bought a Vishnu hose kit but Samco will do the same job for less money. Both are available in a variety of colors but the Samco kit is easier to find from several vendors at a discounted price. Do a search on 'Samco' in the vendors forums here and on NASIOC.

I did not replace the CBV (BOV) hose because I broke the doggone clamp with my needle-nose pliers. The factory installs the clamp facing down. It's probably easy to reach when the intake manifold is off. If you can't replace this hose, don't worry about it. Next time I have the intercooler off I will use a Dremel to cut the old clamp off and use a stainless worm gear clamp in its place.

Don't be surprised when your new hose kit seems to fit a little strangely. My Vishnu hoses seem a bit long and slip on way past the point where the factory pieces stopped. I hear that the Samco hoses also seem to be overly long. Just slip 'em on as far as necessary until the hoses are not crimped or twisted at any point. Don't bother trimming them shorter because you might cut them too short without a trial fit. Just note where the clamp should be and tighten it down at the correct location.

Have patience when re-installing the intercooler with hoses attached. Don't tear up the hoses by prying them with sharp objects like screwdrivers. They fit easily over inlets and outlets but getting the last one on at the same time as the throttle body hose is a little more trouble (but not too bad). Make sure you have the clamps positioned for easy access when all is in place.

I think that in the future, I'm going to refer to any job on a car that looks simple but turns out to be an itch-bay, as 'the BOV hose mod'.
