how much boost
how much boost can the stock turbo and internals from a 2002 wrx take? i know someone who has had theirs at about 18psi, but i think he killed his engine somewhere in there....i'm thinking more about 15 or 16 psi. also, how could i do this without adding any parts? possible?

most people you hear trying to run 18+ psi are also the same people that are trying to put everything back to stock to get the dealership to fix their blown motor
put 2 and 2 together
15-16 PSI is safe, I would not go anymore then that

I shoot for 15.5psi and limit at 16.0psi. I have tried, when I've had juice in my tank, to shoot for 16.0 and limit at 16.25... pretty much every time after a few good runs, timing got pulled and things got sluggish. I'd back off a bit and after a while things got happier again. It seems everyone's car varies a bit. But for the most part, mostly stock cars are really happy with a 15.5 peak.
Beware - some WRXs have been known to ping with stock boost or less than 15.0 when trying to raise it. Don't push it if you hear pinging or wonder why the car feels like a dog after you raised boost. Tune SLOWLY. SMALL INCREMENTS. Its not as pleasing to tbe butt-dyno... but as Scott eludes to, its pleasing to the wallet.

boost it up! Mad powa y0!
Keep it at 15. Don't touch it until you've read Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost." This book will set the groundwork for anything you learn about turbocharged cars from here on out.

im about to buy the greddy profec b spec 2, so i should put it at about 15.25 psi? btw i have helix up and down pipes on my 03 sedan. ^^^ that psi level will be safe for the most part yea? and how much of a gain will i feel?
(i ran a 14.3 tonight) though i hardly go to the track, im all for back road twisties

and
when you say small increments
does that mean i set my boost at 14 psi for a day? or just for a trip around the block, then put it to 14.10? or 14.25? and then another drive around the block? or drive with 14.25 for a day? then keep doin that until 15.5 or so?

Alrighty, I'll drop my two cents in this. According to information I have recieved, you can take the car close to 18 psi as long as you take steps to eliminate the possibility of detonation (i.e, use higher octane gas, use propane injection, or use a co2 spray kit to cool intake charge temperature. I run mine closer to 17. I have had it buck due to computer fuel cut out to prevent over boost, which means I hit the 18psi mark. I was told not to panic, but if I did want to run it somewhere that hi I would need to use really good gas. That was coming from a well known performance company. A subaru tech told me the turbo loses efficiency at 16.5 psi. So at 17, walking the middle ground.
