Question HKS downpipe, let me get this straight

ok, i got a hks downpipe because i had a gift certificate to this one place. i wanted the helix dp but that shop couldnt get it.

so wassup with the CEL? some people say that for the 04, the helix CEL fix that gruppe-s has doesnt work. some people say that the CEL fix is something that just turns off the CEL not actually fix it. some people say that the CEL fix just disables the O2 sensor.

should i try to install the hks dp without a cel fix and see if it will actually throw one? or will the hks dp, undoubtedly throw a CEL

and some people say that the hks dp is too short for the 04 wrxs. is this true?

thanks(in advance) for answering my questions.

it will definatley throw a cel. make sure the cel fix you have is for 04 impreza. the 02-03 cel fixes wont work on 04 and vice versa. you can also try the cel fix posted by kenley (wrexncrew) that works on the o4's

the cel fix just sends a voltage to the ecu so it thinks the cat is working properly. it does not disable any other of the lights functions.

that dp will definitely thow a cel...just get a reflash and you're all good

keep the dp and have a local exhaust shop weld on a divorced wastegate dump for probably around $60-$70 to get better flow

i was thinking about the divorced wastegate dump...

and i couldnt get the helix because i had a fatty gift certificate to the shop that couldnt get helix stuff.

is the cel fix just a resistor? if so, what kind of resistor?

The Helix is bell mouthed, the HKS has a plate blocking the flow of the wastegate (like the stock DP).

Has anyone done this? Are you talking about drilling a hole in the plate at the turbo and welding another pipe on? I am interested in this because I run the hks as well.

chit, you could almost do the above to the stock DP, and route the divorcer to re-enter after the cat... even do the little separator wall thingy and everything.

i installed the hks downpipe. i've gotten a lot of crap for it too, but it's the only mod besides a TT and a front lip that i have in the car. everyone says there's no bellmouth or divorced wastegate or whtaever. for now, i don't care. maybe later in the future, i might weld on that thing, or even change downpipe's all together. maybe even get the hks external wastegate.

and get the cel fix. any of them should work fine, they all do the same thing, and they're all around 20 dollars. unless you do kenley's thing, which cost him 5.
