High temp exhaust problems!

I am in need of advice!!! My wrx had been driving fine until recently. Suddenly while I was driving the car, it bogged down and refused to go. I couldn't give it gas to go but the car was still running. I reset the car and it worked ok for a bit and then did it again.
I took it to a dealership and it came up with a code no one recognized. PO1544. Apparently it has to do with the exhaust temperature being too high. Does anyone know what I should do to fix this? Every dealer is telling me different things...from replace the sensor, replace the cat, take off the aftermarket exhaust, etc.
Please help!!!

A list of you're mods would be helpful. FYI, the egt probe is located in the uppipe so you may want to look around there for anything suspicious.
BTW, don't replace the uppipe cat. If the cat is the problem just go out and buy a catless uppipe.
