Help on my WRX

Aloha All,

I'm in neeed of some help with a problem that I've been having with my WRX. Here's the situation:

The car has no problems if I drive it normal, but once I try to get on it, anything after 30-40% throttle, the car refuses to give me any power an dies out. Then after that, the idle is jumping between barely anything to 1400 RPM's. I'll let it sit for a couple of hours and the idle "fit" will go away, but the lack of power is still there. I don't have anything crazy done to the car (AEM Cold-Air, HKS Up/Down Pipe, HKS Exhaust, and GReddy BOV w/flange). I changed the fuel filter and the spark plugs (Denso Inridiums). My "Check-Engine" light isn't on. Could it be the stock fuel pump can't handle the job? Seems strange with the mild bolt-on's on the car. Or could it be the timing? Any help would be great, thanks...

Try replacing the BOV with the factory compressor bypass valve. If that doesn't make any improvement, try change the AEM intake for factory airbox.

Thread links on cold-air intakes.

You didn't fill out your location field in your member Profile but if you're in HI, try check out your regional forum here on i-Club. HIIC is very active and has regular meets. Those guys are knowledgable about this sort of thing.

Stock fuel pump is adequate for your mods.

Timing is set by the ECU relative to the crank sensor. It normally won't change like an engine with a distributor.

Thanks for the response

I try replacing it. I had a feeling that could be the problem. I just check the adjuster nut on it and it's down the most it could go. So when I tried to loosen it I felt no tension. Maybe the spring is worn out, but after only 5 months? I have the stock BOV and the pipe assembly, but do you have any kind of guide to put it back on? I had it installed because the instructions are in Japanese and I couldn't break down the pictures. It looked easy, but I didn't want to screw it up. Thanks againg for the quick response. I'm eager to get it back up and running so I can take it to the track.

I use the factory bypass valve on my car. I see you've already found ScoobyMods.com but have you seen this BOV install tutorial? Just follow the instructions in reverse to re-install the factory bypass valve and don't forget the gasket. Use torque wrench, if possible. Factory specs call for 11.7 ft lbs.

Bov

Thanks again. I'll give it a try tomorrow and throw the OEM intake box back on if I can find it.
