Maybe your friend doesnt know the difference between an exhaust manifold and headers? I mean where else are exhaust gasses supposed to come out? and if we didnt have headers then how would the turbo spool?

The main difference
between a stock exhaust manifold and a header is the header usually has dedicated piping for each cylinder. Stock exhaust manifolds typically share piping for cylinders and are heavy (iron). Headers are usually stainless steel and light (by comparison). Headers pay more attention to equal-length or unequal-length of runners (pipes). If manufacturers weren't cheap, the difference between an exhaust manifold and a header would be non-existent.
