Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Question IHI Turbos

i was looking into the IHI VF 34 turbo but was curious as to what kinda turbo is in the USDM 2004 STi. Is it the same as the VF34 or is it better or worse?

oh yeah... my cars acting up too... when im driving hard and through a curve, i brake and the abs kicks in. but the thing is that when the abs kicks in, the car sorta doesnt respond to the steering and drifts to the side a little

Dood....braking in curves at all, and braking hard enough to activate the ABS in curves is not a good idea at all.
You need to learn how to drive before you crash, and destroy a nice car.

theres no need to criticize my driving. i dont slam or even press on the brakes very hard. i just got this car and it has some problems to it. i need to know what it is. under normal braking, it is pretty easy to get the abs kicking and it has never happened with any other cars that ive owned.

Yes it's easy to engage the ABS, and it's never good to break in a corner, break before the corner or else you will end up in a ditch Peace

Wonton he's just trying to save your life. Countless people crash and kill themselves/their car precisely b/c they brake during corners.

You've first hand learned why race driving is so hard to master: you can't brake in corners (unless you're plowing into a wall), so getting the entry speed just right, well that's hard

wonton2049, I apologize if I offended you, but I just hate to see young drivers waste nice cars because they couldn't drive their way out of a wet paper bag.
A WRX is not a beginners car.
An STi is most DEFINITLY NOT a beginners car.

Go to a real, intensive, driving school like Skip Barbers or whatever before you wreck your car and kill yourself or someone else.

its ok.... i think u guys are getting me really wrong. i was taking a curve. i wasnt taking a left or a right. whats even more sad is that i was going about 50 and was was only covering the break. and now last night, i was getting off the highway at about 70 and pressed the breaks a little harder than usual just to see if it would act up and it did. i hit some uneven road and it felt like only one side of the breaks were working. the car swirved a little like it did last time.

oh yeah. i also noticed that i didnt mention that this car was in a little bit of a front hit from the previous owner. his tires also hit the sidewalk and the shocks were replaced. i bought it off him (he's a friend) and had the damaged parts replaced. no frame damage on the car though. does this help anyone out with y the car is acting the way it is? i cant figure it out.

Just slide it into the curb on the other side and that should straighten things out.

Stop experimenting with the brAkEs in curves and on uneven roads. That "swirving" is you being a half-second from losing control. Listen to Uncle Scotty...please.

To figure this out...find a smooth STRAIGHT road and really brake hard. The car should track straight. If it pulls to one side, something is wrong with either the tires (uneven tread), aligment, or brakes.

wow 50-70 mph and braking while in a cuve is bad. i was going threw the sweeper ( its a turn on a race course) at about 45 mph let off the gas the rear end let out a little then i paniced braked and drifted into a set of tires and barrels. That was at 45 mph braking in turns is bad Mmm-Kay. Good luck w/ the car dude.
