Good Place To Start?

Heya, I'm not a suby guy, and generally not a lot of a Turbo guy, being in BMW land, but my wife is very, very interested in picking up a WRX, most likely a wagon. One thing we'd like to do is get some more lowend power, and I'm really interested in hearing what you guys have to say as a good place to start to acheive this. She drives a VR6 Jetta right now, which frankly has a lot more lowend than a stock WRX. I drove a WRX a while ago and while its a blast up top, it needs some encouragement below 3K RPMs, so I'm really curious what your guys' steps toward some conservative mods.
We're not looking for a JDM 350hp Turbo swap, just some more power, preferably down low, with reliability in mind.
Thanks for your time!

If she wants more low end, tell her to drive a turbo forester. There isn't much you can do for the low end on a turbo car without killing the high end.
