Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

going from 235whp to 275-285whp

right now I am at 235whp and torque and my mods are as follows:

TBE
Vishnu Pulley
Silicone I/C hoses
Pinks
Vishnu Reflash and Tuning
and a VF series turbo (which one I have no idea, any help is greatly appreciated)
uppipe
fuel pump (not sur if it has one in the car already, if not I will go ahead and ad it)

my goal is about 35-50 more horspower. I want to get there on a VF turbo if capable OR at least a bolt on turbo. What else would be needed?

Dyno Plot:

Boost and A/F:

You don't know what model IHI turbo you've got? If it is one, you should at quite a bit more than 235whp, I'd think

You might have a vf39 (sti turbo) or a vf30/34 that isnt tuned fully. If you want more horepower you could always look at going with a Pe1818 or 1820, I remember seeing a dyno that was about 285whp with a PE 18 something.

Shiv tuned my car last week at that is the plot from then. He said it is a smaller turbo than a VF34, but he is not sure which one.

cool, finally a educated guess. I really have no idea since I am new to Suby's, but it pulls pretty good. Only bad thing is that I now want more power.

Swap in a vf34 and a front mount intercooler. If you want a few more horses add a lightened pulley and silicone intercooler hoses. You should be able to get there with those mods.

I would say that it is not worth the hassle switching out your turbo for the VF-34, I mean I have one, not to be a hypocrit, but you already have yours in, so why not use it. There are a few ways you could go.

All are going to require you changing out your injectors again, because the STi pinks start starving the motor for fuel, top end, with a bigger turbo.

Scenario 1: A very laggy setup, a VF-22 and a Front Mount Intercooler, you will make power, about what you want, but you will have to wait for it.

Scenario 2: Get a PE or FP series turbo that does not lag so bad, but is much more expensive, and a TMIC.

Scenario 3: Keep what you have now, and do some other work on your car, IE suspension, tires, or drivetrain. Because if you are planning on making that much power you need a very steady suspension and maybe even a beefed up transmission. A bearing in my 5 speed went out with 247 AWHP on vishnu's dyno, so I swapped in a R/A Transmission and differential.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me, good luck,
Austin

Cool thanks for the info. I prefer to keep a TMIC, rather than FMIC to keep it more of a sleeper look. I am looking at other turbos rather than the IHI's. Most likely a 18g/20g/or FPgreen.

Get the FP Green with the 3" inlet and never run any gas besides 76, "when your making big power it is always important to run the best gas you can buy, consecutively" -Shiv Pathak (Vishnu)

You won't be able to make max power with a tmic. Those big turbos will need the volume of a fmic in order to cool all that hot air. If you are going to spend big $ on your turbo you should get a fmic...you will regret it later if you don't. The aps fmic is flat black and keeps the sleeper look. Only an informed eye would notice it.

Don't forget that you will need bigger injectors as well. The pinks won't be able to feed the big mitsu turbos.
