fuel rail question
I just posted this on nasioc, but figured I would try here as well to try to get the most answers-
It is no secret that the WRX is known for lean cyl 3 issues. People have pointed their fingers at the fuel rail for quite some time saying that is the issue. I have an 05 and am not all that familiar with past WRX's, however everyone that sees it says the fuel setup is different than their 04 and older ones. Does anyone know if the rail was improved on the 05 or anything? I was told by a Sub. tech that they moved the filter in tank on it so I know that is different too. Any ideas? Thanks.

I think the fuel rails are not an issue untill you get up in the higher horse power level(maybe 275hp@ wheels?).Even Perrin said that even though it is an issue the damage is usually due to poor tuning.Even if you had the fuel rails,if tuned very poorly, the #3 is still prone to problems due to the way the coolant is routed in the heads.I believe this is correct at least.

Ah, so it is the "hot" cylinder. That makes sense and is kind of what I wondered all along, but so many people say they need upgraded rails to solve the problem, so I was wondering if it was some goofy design that gave poor flow to #3.
As for hp, I am shooting for 375-400. I wanted to really go nuts with it, but just got married and the wife doesn't think so lol..
