Exhaust = safe????
thats fine... usually you don't have to modify the ecu till you start changing fuel pressure, injectors, and/or turbos...
just regular bolt ons the stock ecu can handle it just fine..

Might be a good idea to reset the ECU though
Disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 30 seconds to a minute, pump the brake pedal, then reconnect. You'll know it worked if you lose all your radio station presets.

In closed loop mode the ECU will adjust fuel for your setup. In open loop the ECU will just fuel based on the maps and the consensus is that the stock maps are rich enough that a uppipe and turbo back setup would still be safe.
I have a '03 WRX and with the UTEC data logging I have not seen any knock at all w/ the stock maps running catless (gp moto upipe, helix dp, borla catback).
There is some concern w/ the same setup on '04+ cars as they have a delay in switching from closed loop to open loop.

It seemed after putting a few mods on, the reset ECU isn't enough. At the time I got my car tuned, I only had a short-ram intake and a catback. You would think I would have added a few extra hp with that. WRONG. After the baseline dyno run, I come to find out that I have less hp than a stock WRX. I thought it was just my luck. Yes I reset the ECU after the mods were installed. Just with those two mods I put down 199whp after a dyno tune.
