No.
Of course it will fit. And YES it will be difficult. The SCC article details all the stuff you need to do, I figured you'd appreciate the reference.

From I-Speed website:
Fully functional, California Smog Legal, and 100% fun. If you own a 93-01 Impreza (sedan, coupe, outback sport, legacy) and are considering the upgrade to the 2.0 "US WRX", here are some things to think about: You will need a new clutch and you might want to get a flywheel while the engine is out of the car. We can buy them both for you. We use Exedy Clutch's. Pressure Plates and Flywheels. Of Course that will be reflected in the total price. Package Prices depends on where you get the parts and how many extra parts you get. Minimum you should plan on spending, for someone other than yourself to do the swap, is ~7,500 dollars and this includes the price of the engine, wiring harness, and OEM ECU. The complete conversion should take ~50 hours.

i figure labor to be a big portion of it. Those engines are pretty heavy to haul out since they are placed low in the car. Not to mention the cost of the engine itself. Good luck on the swap that should really be exciting once it gets finished. I'm a big fan of the GC8 body styles, especially the coupes. I fell in love w/ suby's b/c I got to test drive 2.5 rs gc8's this summer for a friend who couldn't drive a stick.
If you plan on doing it yourself just make sure there are no left over screws or bolts... that's usually what happens to me when i take things apart and try to put them back together again. So I don't mess w/ taking my engine apart. Good luck to ya.
