did some installs.. found some problems..
over the weekend i installed a DC uppipe, and an HKS downpipe and i did the snorkaletemy... everything went okay in the install.. took me alone about 5 hours to do it all... not bad for a 17 year old.. anyways after i put everything back together.. i took the car around the block.. and immediatly when i would get into the 2000 rpm range and all the way up to redline there is this loud *** whistle and then when i would let off it sounds like i have an aftermarket BOV like its really loud.... i drove around all last night and it whistled everywhere i went in the 2-7k rpm range getting louder as higher rpms hit.. i also noticed that if im at around 2500 rpm and i stomp on it as soon as it hits a little higher i just notice a peak climb in the rpm.. like it really pauses then when it hits 3k rpm it just screams all the way too redline.. just an FYI.. i am using all of the stock gaskets on both the uppipe and downpipe.. but im wondering if there could be a leak somewhere and the loud whitling is comming from those.. i already am going to buy new gaskets and see if that helps.. but im wondering if this has happened to anyone else.. if the turbo is really supposed to be this loud.. but on top of it all.. my downpipe didnt throw a CEL... so thats an upside to it all.. but i already have a CEL fix for that sitting at my house so its there when i need it.. anyways any help at all would be great.. as i am sort of worrying and i need to know if what my car is doin is normal....
Sounds like an uppipe leak. It's a pretty common problem inexperienced(and even experienced) people run into when installing the uppipe. It's also possible that the flanges are not a perfect fit and using 2 gaskets between the header and upipe might help that.

If it's a whistle its most likely the uppipe. You should only have to replace the the two uppipe gaskets and the downpipe to turbo gasket. If all else fails take it to subaru specialists.

I concur with Ben - it sounds like a leak. It's most likely your uppipe. Did you torque all of the bolts to 26 ft-lbs? Did you use a brand new gasket? Are seeing any loss in boost?

The used gasket part is most likely the source of your leak. The uppipe-turbo and downpipe-turbo gaskets are the most essential to replace when you mess with either of those exhaust pieces. Don't over torque the bolts or you may have a problem getting them off later. They tend to tighten with all of that heat.

well i installed new gaskets for the uppipe that i bought from suabaru for 45 bux.. anyways.. it didnt stop the whistle.. its still the same but the weird thing that i noticed was that it only makes the whistle when the car is in gear.. when you rev it just sitting still.. it just sounds normal.. but when you drive it and go to redline it is a whistle maniac.. PLZ HELP

but anyways.. i now notice that when i drive to redline and shift, when it gets into the next gear with my foot floored.. it gives a hesitation before it picks up even thought its already in 4k rpm area.. so im guessing it can "only" be a leak??
im pretty sure its just the sound of the turbo spooling up. 1. do you hear an exhaust leak with the car at idle or just reving it a little bit?exhaust leaks r REAL noticeable and if not, then im almost 100% positive that it is just the new found turbo noises. If it was a leak, then over time, the gasket would get blown out more and more and the noise would be VERY noticeable at idle and low rev's. Just re-torque the bolts down and let it be.
