Cusco Engine and Tranny Mount
Cusco Engine and Tranny Mount
Need some help
At first, I heard a popping sound (something hitting something) when I shift hard at redline. Now I hear creaking and hitting sounds when i start my car off on 1st gear, not flooring it, just regular driving. So I assume it is the engine or tranny mount.
Stopped by Subaru today and they said the STI engine mount is $95.00 each, and the tranny mount is $117.00. So total cost would be around $340.00 including tax.
I see that the Cusco combo is only around $250, so I'm planning on getting that. I just want to make sure that it is my engine/tranny mount that is causing the poping and creaking sound. Any input would be appreciated.

it is shifting quiet a lot. I'd say more than normal.
will it be cool to not fix it for a while? I plan on getting a engine dampener instead. Will my engine fall off????

do you have aftermarket downpipe? if so, it could be that. my perrin is hitting some metal piece under my car i think it's the tranny mount. not too bad though i only hear it when i pound the gas, then release it really fast.

Beware the Cusco mounts crank the NHV up quite a bit, and instead of the motor and tranny wiggling it lets the entire car wiggle more. I had the cusco set on for about 2 weeks before I almost went insane and installed the Grp-N motor, tranny, and pitch stop, and it's not as smooth as stock, but much more firm, and it isn't an unholy noisy beast like it was with the cusco mounts.

I picked up my STi engine and tranny mounts from RalliSpec a couple of years ago. It's also possible that one of the vendors in the Classifieds For Sale sub-forum carries them in stock. Some are in the Bay Area.
I installed the engine mounts myself but had a shop install the tranny mount for me. If you do it yourself, just make sure you have a good selection of hand tools because the engine mount bolts are a bit hard to reach. Use a torque wrench, if possible - one of my engine mount bolts worked itself loose but the guys at Gruppe-S spotted it during another install.
Pleasant Hill is fairly close to a number of shops who are participating vendors on i-Club. Some are closer to you than others and that'll be a consideration if they are busy and you have to pick it up later in the day. You might post the question in the Bay Area regional i-Club sub-forum to get other members' recommendations of a shop near Pleasant Hill.
