on the stock downpipe with 2 cats, there are many heat sheilds... has anyone taken off the third cat's heat shield and mated it to an aftermarket downpipe with no cats, like the helix one that i have installed... i just dont want cops to get all pissy you know?...

It's been done before but the heat shields may have to be modified to fit. Text and pics courtesy of wrXratd.

i have helix down pipe and helix up pipe and catback

completely catless

i put the upper heatshiled back on, i cut away at it and made it fit
looks completely stock until you look under the car
and most cops will not do that

As WW pointed out, I took the heatshield off of a spare 3rd cat section and added it to the Stromung 3rd cat eliminator pipe I had as part of my old exhaust system. It bolted right in, other than having to enlarge the hole for the O2 sensor. I was going to do the same thing with the downpipe section, but the stock dp heatshields are spot welded on and I couldn't get them off in a condition suitable for putting on an aftermarket dp.

dude once again cops cant look under your hood for know reason they need more than than just "your car is loud so pop your hood" it doest work that way. but on another note i have the Helix up-pipe,down-pipe, and cat-back and i just cut the top heatsheild by the turbo. if the cop does know stuff about subaru's you can tell its an after market downpipe becasue its like polished and you can look and see the hole downpipe from the engine bay and see its just a pipe with know cats.

A loud or visibly modded car is legal grounds for looking under the hood- particularly when they already have you stopped for other violations like no front plate or front tint or registration.
