Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Took my '02 WRX Wagon to the shop yesterday (a Sunday) for this issue - had the same symptoms as described elsewhere in this forum, including the fuel puddling, etc.

This morning, I called the Subaru national customer service number (1-800-SUBARU8), at the advice of one poster on (I think?) this thread. The gentleman I spoke to there advised that I get my service manger to call his "Regional Representative" or "District Manager" to get approval to repair this under warranty (I have approx. 70K on the car). He also called the service guy handling my car at Austin Subaru and, apparently, the DM.

In speaking with my service guy, he'd never heard of anyone requesting this before, but he offered to do it, anyway. This afternoon I received word back from him that Subaru approved the repair under warranty!!

Saves me $604!!!!

Thanks, guys!!!

Dave

I've had two WRXs, both of them smell like a gas station when starting up in cold weather. My dad was in the car once and said "wow, smells rich". My current WRX (an 04) has a catless up-pipe, seems to smell worse, but what a nice cheap upgrade (among other things) that is.

Can't wait to smell the guess tomorrow.
