BOV's and CELs (also boost gauge ?)
I just purchased a 02 WRX last friday and am already looking into mods. I want to get a BOV, but I don't want to get a CEL. I am totally new to the world of turbo cars. I have only had NA American V8's, but buying gas sucked, so I traded in my gas hog for a little red WRx.
Another quick question...my car didn't have a boost gauge from the factory, so I purchased a gauge and pod, but don't really know where to hook it up...can anyone help me.
Thanks

Well not sure how much more you're gonna like the gas buying, I think I spend more on this car buying 93 octane.
Anyhow, I'd suggest taking the money from the BOV and getting something else. Performance will suffer on an otherwise stock WRX and if its the sound you're after try getting a Blitz SUS intake. You'll hear you're stock BOV just fine.
Or if you want to get a good performance gain and sound go for an uppipe. Its generally where most start their moddifications as it gives a good gain in spool up time and a nice little bit of power. Both of these mods will run you in the price range of a bov, and I think you'll be much happier with the results.
As for hooking up the boost gauge. I usually go right off the bov.
Take the line off the nipple coming off the bov and T off that to your gauge and put a new small piece of hose to the nipple. Easiest and quickest location to go from.

I am planning on running 93 octane. But when I filled up my dodge with 87 octane, cost me 45 bucks, plus I only got 4 miles to the gallon with 38 inch swampers and 4.56 gears...anyways, back to the WRX. I took the airbox silencer out and I can hear the bypass valve pretty good, so I think that will suffice for now, but you mentioned an uppipe as a good first purchase...what are good brands to go with, and what should I look for. Do you know of any good retailers.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Here's a pic of BPM's uppipe.
It has a flex design that some people like.
We also carry DNP uppipes, which are a nice solid construction.
Quality is very important, there are a lot of poorly made uppipes out there that will end up leaking later in the life of the car. I personally don't like to cut corners and do things twice.
Check out our website for some pictures of the dnp.
We can also get you a variety of other choices you might have, however I'd rather not discuss sales in the performance forum. Email me and I can point you in the right direction.

I love my new WRX and it's definately no slouch, but for speed I'll stick with the Formula, but for handling I'll go with the WRX. Everything has it's pro's and con's.
