Boost issues! Only pushin 9 pounds!

So i picked up my 05 wrx last wednesday, it has 68000 miles on it, got it from a subaru dealership, and im pretty sure im the second owner, car runs good except that im only pushing maybe a max of 9 pounds of boost. engine looks really clean and everything is stock, anyone have an idea, could the previous owner have had the boost turned down? thanks

if its stock, check for vacuum leaks and clean your maf sensor just for safety (make sure you use MAF cleaner and read the instructions)

8-9 psi is usually the regular wastegate pressure. Your boost control is not working for whatever reason. The ecu has a 'limp' mode that disables boost control when certain badness is occurring i.e. CEL, memory dumps due to faulty relays, etc. You could have a manual boost controller on the car that is turned completely open. Could also be a borked OEM boost control valve.

This is definitely a job for a shop to diagnose if you aren't 100% comfortable checking for vacuum/boost leaks.

Goodluck!

k, is it something that can be fixed with proper tuning from somebody? and a scanner to see if there are any bad relays or cels

I am no guru by any means, btu i have had my car pulled a couple times and looked over quite a few dyno sheets.

first let me ask, how are you getting yoru boost reads?

if its from the gauge, the gauge could be off.

however, especially if you are stock, you are probably boosting at 10psi, maybe 11 and tapering off to about 7-8psi .

me for example my last dyno sheet said had max boost at 10psi and tapered down to 7. 220whp and 240wtq.

i think the stockers can go up to 13.3psi but your stock mapping keeps your car in a safe 9-10psi keeping back from max. get an access port and exhaust and have it tuned and i am sure you will see that number come up

but liek i said i am not an expert its just what i have learned and found out talking to people.

also, disconnect the battery, pump the brakes 5-6 times, wait a couple minutes and reconnect the battery, this should do a reset on the ecu.
