Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

From what I hear from other members ACT or Exedy clutch is similar to a oem clutch feel. When my clutch goes out, I'll choose between those 2.

Amazon.

search "KSB03"

It's an Exedy OEM kit and it's basically the stock clutch. Some suggest it IS the stock clutch, that Exedy makes the stock clutch and they also sell it in an Exedy box as well as providing to Subaru. I had mine replaced with this at 145kish when the throwout bearing started making some noise and it basically feels exactly like stock.

Don't upgrade if you don't need it, the tranny is a weak point in the '02 and you don't want any more clutch than you need, it helps provide a little margin of safety on the tranny.

What he said, definitely do NOT go with a "beefier" or "racing" style clutch, you NEED the slip to avoid blowing the gears right out of the transfer case. I would not only go with an OEM clutch, I would drive like an octogenarian with severe myopia (slow as snail snot) for WEEKS afterwards until it was totally broken in before trying any highway downshifts. You know how to revmatch, right?

I am very happy with my 6 puck ACT

It is a very radical race clutch when you need it to be but it is also very drivable for normal street use. I have over 20K on my STi and used one on a Supercharged 4Runner for over 100k miles with zero problems... very inexpensive clutch that can hold up to mega power.

Only issue is you need to learn how to take off with minimal clutch slip which is no problem with a lightweight WRX or STi

We're talking about the 5MT here, not the STI 6-speed.

No matter the transmission.... I used the ACT in my Supercharged 4Runner 5speed manual... clutch is a clutch...

lol!

let me know how many people with stock '02 5MTs you know running in the 11s like your STi tranny.

For every one you show me, I'll show you someone transmission shopping in 6 months.

There's no issue with the ACT 6-puck clutch... the issue is with the '02 5MTs that have a history of going all 'splody and stuff.

Yeah, that's just a complete lack of logical argument there. Go ahead and compare a Toyota truck to a Subaru WRX, tell us how that works out for you.

Well everyone is different and likes a different brand clutch.
I know the ACT clutch is very close to the feel of the stock OEM
clutch.I on the other hand I have always liked the feel, durabilty, and
dependablity of the Centerforce DF clutch.I know the Centerforce
clutches are just alittle stiffer than the stock OEM clutch.

My reply is based on complete logical reasoning ... and technical knowledge.. yours seems to be based on emotion!!! A clutch is a clutch... no matter what it is installed in

Good point on the transmission tho...

Ditto.
All clutches are not created equal.
I know the Spec clutches on our cars have had alot of catastrophic
failures among Subaru enthuiasts.
