Acceleration to redline
Hello!
Lately, I've noticed something a little different from my WRX. I see a lot of dyno charts that have crooked powerbands instead of smooth bow of lines. I try accelerating from 2500rpm and as it goes up through the rpms, the engine seemed a little hesitant that if it were to run on a dyno, it would print out crooked lines. Does that make sense? It does start to smooth out at higher rpms at probably 4500rpm or so. I feel very faint hesitation as if I'm slightly letting off the gas pedal in and out.
Is this normal occurences to a stock WRX? Or is it the lag of the turbo as it gains enough boost to completey fill the engine? Now, I'm wanting to have it tuned by Vishnu! *sigh* Only if I have enough money right now...
Thanks!

I appreciate you not saying "Search you fool!". People go out all the time telling the line, when you really don't have the information what to search for (sometimes).
Sonicsuby, I have a 05 WRX. I'm aiming to get it tuned by Vishnu, seemed like they got it figured out!

Does this problem affect earlier WRX models? My 02 has a really nasty hiccup right about 2000 RPM when WOT, which is terrible in 1st and 2nd gear, and noticeable in 3rd; it almost feels like the entire engine "skips a beat," the drop in power is that severe. I drove it with my mechanic sitting in the passenger seat, and he said it was pretty typical and not harmful, and not enough to get me a new ECU on warranty.
I'm worried that when I start adding power, this problem will be amplified and get worse. Hopefully an ECU reflash can smooth out the "flat spot"...

I've noticed this on my 05 wagon as well. It feels like a delay in power production between 3500-4500 rpm. After 4500 it accelerates well. This did not happen with my 02 sedan...
Is there any cure besides a reflash?

It's the stock ECU itself, it's the way Subaru did it... so I'm not sure if there are any other cure aside from having it tuned/reflashed.

This is indeed the OL/CL dellay present in the 04/05 WRX ECU. The only current cure is a reflash and tune (via Ecutek or Cobb ProTuner). The other thing to note is that fairly serious detonation events and the ECU pulling timing in response is the root of this hesitation. So a good knock free tune will also be much better for engine longevity than the stock ECU. The 04/05 crowed got really unlucky in terms of programming IMO.
Thanks
